Adox Fine Print Nuance Warmtone FB
ADOX Fine Print Nuance paper is a very traditional, graded paper. It features a true chlorobromide emulsion, an excellent tonal range and an extremely high contrast range. Nuance® will not let your highlights go rather it differentiates in the finest “nuances” between white and zone 2. It does not “snap” as much as Museum or, say, Forte Polywarmtone, rather it works itself towards the viewer over it's rich tonality in the light and medium dark areas. This makes it extremely suitable for landscapes and portrait work as well as contact printing from a large format negatives.
Price increases have come through, but the paper's unique properties make it great value.
Adox Fine Print Nuance. More information........
As with Adox Fine Print Vario Classic FB, this paper is coated on the last remaining coating alley which was built especially for coating fibre based papers in the 1950's. It uses the vertical coating dunk-process and runs much slower than modern horizontal speed-coating machines. As a result it soaks up with emulsion making it extremely silver rich. The emuslion is free of incorporated developing substances or additional optical brighteners making it suitable for alternative printing and lith/MLD processing. No fade out of optical brighteners over longer exposure to light. It develops a superb tonality and slightly greenish colour in Amidol developers whilst achiving a DMAX over 2,2. In normal working developer the G2 paper achieves a DMAX of 2,15 and higher. It should be noted that some modern paper developers are formulated, and their respective dilution / capacity is given on the assumption that it will be used for RC papers with incorporated developing aids. These developers will, potentially, "give up" if confronted with the silver content of Nuance and the prints will not achieve maximum values. So please make sure you use a suitable devloper and do not use dilutions of 1+7 or higher. Further to this Nuance needs to be developed for up to 4 minutes (remember, perform your own tests to check for min/max development times and note that developer and fix exhaust more quickly than with more modern papers) in order to give full highlight and midtone differrentiation due to its extraordinarily high silver content. As always, it's best to make some tests.
