High Acutance Developers
These are developers also known as non-solvent type and work to give increased sharpness and highly defined grain, the result is usually biting sharpness but at the expense of more visible grain - this can of course be seen as both desirable or undesirable depending on you particular objecives and style. With this in mind these developers are most suited to slower speed films such as ISO125 and less, but this is not a rule cast in stone (as always in black and white!) and we have reports, and have seen great examples, of fast films being used very successfully with high speed films of ISO400+. Many photographers report superb results developing Ilford Pan-F in Rodinal.
