ADOX FX39 (formerly Paterson FX39) is a suberbly flexible, high acutance (Sharpness) developer. It is very good at attaining full speed from black and white films, but it is also possible to double the film's ISO with adjustment in development times. Easy to use with a typical 1:9 dilution. Ideal for beginners, schools and advanced photographers alike and especially effective with films like Ilford Delta and Kodak T-Max.

In 1960, Geoffrey Crawley published a series of articles in the British Journal of Photography, and many new formulas which he called 'FX'. Crawley's research over the years is some of the most important into film developers and FX39 is based on Beutler's formula for "Neofin Red", but enhanced and developed by Crawley. Paterson Photographic traditionally offered various Crawley formulated developers but recently decided to drop their range of chemistry. As it was being manufactured by Adox for Paterson, Adox have continued to offer the FX39 under their own name simply because it is such a great formulation.
